Where are we going? What maintenance do we need to perform?

Where are we going adventure sailing this summer?  Should we go back to Alaska?  Or should we stay closer to our home port of Tacoma Washington.  The jury is still out on where we will be heading  this summer.  What I can say is it will most definitely not be Alaska.

As with getting ready for any adventure, whether is only for short weekend, a two week trip, or multiple monthly excursion there are things that need to be done on the boat.  There are the normal annual maintenance things like changing the oils, and filters, and then there are bigger things like adding new electronics, performing major refits, or managing your plumbing and engine components.  Well for Nordic Sun II the list of project where both small and large.  Here is a sample list of my boat project to take on prior to leaving on our annual summer cruise.

The List:

  • Add new holding tank in aft head
  • Repair or replace running light
  • Fix security pin on companionway steps
  • Fix float switch in sump pump
  • Fix exhaust leak in exhaust manifold
  • Install AIS
  • Replace Radar and Display
  • Add dinghy davits
  • Add additional patches to bimini
  • Repair dry rot in shower
  • Fix oil and water temperature switches
  • Remove old wire to no where
  • Servicing Winches
  • Making canvas covers for things
  • Replace leaky sink facet
  • Replace heat exchanger hoses
  • Add anti-siphon on aft head water intake
  • Fix broken plumbing fittings on sump pump
  • Build new stack pack main sail cover
